Engineering council to embark on registration system roadshow

SANDTON - The Balalaika Hotel will play host to the Engineering Council of South Africa as it conducts public consulting roadshows.

The roadshows are set to begin on 2 March and will take place in 11 cities, with the Johannesburg leg taking place on 23 March from 1pm to 5pm.

According to Sipho Madonsela, CEO of the council, the roadshows will be aimed at looking into the New Registration System prescribed by section 36 of the Environmental Protection Act.

“As a council, we are committed to protecting both the profession and the public, and to fulfil our main objectives we need to regularly review and enhance our registration system thereby increasing efficiency, security as well as integrity,” he said.

He added that, through engagement with registered and non-registered engineers, the council would be able to address any concerns in respect of registering with the council, and inform them on the system.

The engineering council serves the role of regulating the engineering profession through standards generation and policy development, accreditation and quality assurance, registration of engineering practitioners, and professional conduct management.

The roadshows are set to run until 23 March from 1pm to 5pm.
