New leadership takes charge in Parkmore

PARKMORE - The Parkmore Community Association welcomes Kate Wardle as the new executive manager following Brian Robertson’s resignation from the association.

“We as a committee decided to take a good look at our strategy going forward,” said Wardle. She said as the deputy chairperson, it made sense for her to take the reigns. She will now be working closely with current chairperson, Julian Ortlepp.

“All directors agreed to be extremely hands on over the next few months as we take stock of where we are and what areas we need to focus on this year,” explained Wardle. She said it was important for the association to first assess where they were before rehiring a new executive manager.

Wardle outlined the association’s strategy for this year following a public meeting recently at Montrose School. She said the meeting was well attended with over 120 residents in attendance.

The association wants to increase resident members from 550 to 650 by December with a focus on improving communications and the existing database. Wardle added that the association wants to continue to improve security in the suburb by working closely with the relevant authorities and encouraging more members to sign up to the 24/7 security company. “We want to continue to create a suburb that is a desirable place to live and to work,” she said.

Wardle said since 24/7 began work six months ago, crime has fallen radically in the suburb with the main crimes currently being theft out of motor vehicles, particularly when jamming devices are used.

“We are enormously encouraged by the support of this community over the past six weeks and thank everyone for volunteering their time and energy,” said Wardle. “We need more people to join in and support this community policing initiative. The system works. If we hit our targets, we will have the strike team available on a permanent basis.”
