Shopping centre responsible for filth

MORNINGSIDE - The Morningside Shopping Centre has been accused of alleged unsanitary conditions and gross inconvenience.

This according to concerned resident Charles Key, who was perplexed by the state of the roads and pavements that border the centre. “Repeated attempts to get the centre to co-operate on a number of issues including deliveries, litter, overflowing drains and generator fumes, have proved fruitless,” explained Key.

“We find it unacceptable that just beyond the manicured perimeter, those responsible for litter and filth do not feel it necessary to remedy problems directly created by their shopping centre,” he added.

Ward 103 councillor Vincent Earp said environmental health recently served notice to the centre because of the stench of rotting food that came from their basement.

He explained, “The public road is not a loading area for deliveries. The centre should be providing an area inside the centre for deliveries. The centre does not contribute a cent towards its cleanliness. Every day the park is left filthy and Redhill School staff have to clean up the area. This is not acceptable.”

Centre management was contacted and they acknowledged Key’s concerns, however, no comment was received from them by the time of publication.
