VIDEO: Car Jamming on Sandton Drive

SANDTON - A video has recently been posted on YouTube by Crime Line showing the plight of car jamming which has arisen in the Sandton area.

The video, which was posted on 2 February, shows a car jamming incident which occurred on 19 January at a filling station just off Sandton Drive. The suspects can be seen in the video holding a generic remote control used to obstruct the signal between the victim’s car remote and car’s locking system.

The suspects then open the victim’s car and steal various items out of it.

With the growing number of smash-and-grab incidents, car jamming has become a major issue in Johannesburg. Spokesperson for the Sandton police Captain Kym Cloete said car jamming occurs primarily at shopping malls, filling stations and schools.
