Damaged crash barrier creates danger zone

BUCCLEUCH - The crash barrier located at the intersection of Pretoria Main Road and Woodmead Drive has been damaged and is a danger to motorists travelling on that stretch of road.

This according to concerned Buccleuch resident Andrew McMurray who first reported the damaged barrier to the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport last year in June. The department managed to replace the damaged crash barrier, however, McMurray said it has been damaged once again.

When McMurray first reported the damage, he was most concerned that the crash barrier that was supposed to act as a safety barrier for motorists, was in ruins and posed a threat to the lives of the motorists travelling on that road. Once again, the same danger threatens the lives of motorists.

McMurray added that the crash barrier was not the only area of concern at that intersection and that he had been waiting to hear when the department was going to attend to other issues in the area.

Ntsikelelo Ngubeni from the Johannesburg Roads Agency said the issue falls under the department.

No comment was received from the department by the time of publication.
