Benmore Post Office closed

BENMORE - A number of Sandton residents have expressed outrage following the unexpected closing of the post office in Benmore Garden Shopping Centre.

A Morningside resident said he went to the post office on 19 January to send a package to Durban, but the recipient did not receive the package or a message with the tracking number.

The resident added, “I called the regional office and they told me that the package has not been sent. So for all, I know it’s still lying there.”

Property manager of Benmore Gardens, Sheridan Neuwerth, confirmed that the post office has been closed since 20 January. She said, “The lease on the premises expired last year and since then the landlord has attempted to sign a new lease with the post office, but to no avail. This, in addition to reasons that cannot be disclosed, is the reason for the post office being closed.”

Neuworth added that the shopping centre has received numerous complaints regarding the office’s closure and “have made temporary arrangements to open the store until the matter is formally resolved.”

As of yet the Sandton Chronicle have not received comment from the South African Post Office.
