Relief in sight on Rivonia and 5th

SANDTON - Residents frustrated with the road works on 5th Street in Sandton Central will be relieved to know that the Johannesburg Roads Agency is taking action.

This follows complaints from a resident who wished to remain anonymous. The resident expressed frustration at the lack of progress on the reinstatement of the road after parts of it were dug up. The barricades between 5th Street and Rivonia Road cordoning off the site had according to the resident been there for four months, with no entity taking measures to remedy the situation.

The agency’s Bertha Peters-Scheepers confirmed that the agency was aware of the situation and had taken measures to reinstate the road.

“The team has been onsite and removed the barricading and compacted the area,” she said. “As soon as the inclement weather allows, the team will do the necessary tar repair work to ensure the area is once again accessible for traffic.”

In a way of an explanation for the delayed reinstatement of the road, Peters-Scheepers said sometimes when an entity had finished its work on a road it failed to notify the agency.

“This will then mean that the agency has to take steps to reinstate the road which may take time as they do not bring this to our attention at times,” she said.
