Protect yourself from crime in the New Year

BRAMLEY - Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, the spokesperson for the Bramley police, has issued safety tips for Sandton residents and business owners.

He said community members needed to understand that criminals do not rest during the holidays and that safety measures needed to be followed into the New Year.

Here are some of his safety tips:

•Make sure someone is on standby to look after your house while you are away on holiday.

•Do not publicise your travel plans.

•Before leaving close all windows and lock all doors.

•Remove all visible valuable items from the public’s eye.

•Remove all keys from the doors.

•Beef up security and alarm systems.

•Make sure employers going to the office are extra-vigilant when accessing the premises.

•Report any suspicious looking vehicles to the officials.
