Bramley police said the 34-year-old woman was dragged along 5th Street by her husband after she tried to get away from him.

“She tried to run away from him but he dragged her back into the house and hit her,” Maphakela explained.

The police were alerted by the woman’s daughter.

Maphakela said the police officers allegedly walked in while the man was beating his wife.

“The wife was bleeding from the back of her head and her lips were swollen,” said Maphakela.

The man was arrested and will appear in court soon on a charge of domestic violence.

Maphakela said the police do not condone domestic violence, and urge women in the community to speak out and report incidents of violence to the police.

This, after the 16 Days of Activism campaign kicked off on 24 November. The campaign speaks out against violence towards women and children.
