Taxi driver slaps Metro police officer

ILLOVO - A taxi driver has been arrested for assault after slapping a Metro police officer in Illovo.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for the Bramley police, said the Metro police officer was writing out a fine to the taxi driver after he was caught obstructing traffic along Pretoria Main Road. “The driver was off-loading passengers from the middle of the road,” explained Maphakela.

“The driver got very angry and started pushing the officer around and insulting him. The taxi driver then slapped the officer with an open hand.”

Maphakela said the officer called other officers for back-up. The taxi driver was then apprehended for assault and detained at the Bramley Police Station.

He will appear in court soon.
