Long walk for freedom

SANDTON - Attempting the impossible in honour of children’s rights, Horizon View resident Brendan Fraser is set to walk from Gauteng to Western Cape.

The freelance marketing consultant will begin his long and arduous journey of 1 443 km from Sandton to Cape Town on 1 November.

Fraser explained how he came to be involved in the walk. “I came into contact with a lady called Leanne Flack, who in turn introduced me to the Food for Life initiative, and we decided to collaborate and take this walk to create awareness,” he said.

He added that for him it was a way to create awareness for children and their rights in the country, as it was a close cause to his heart.

The walk is set to last 20 days, something Fraser explained as a commemoration of the 20 years of democracy South Africa was celebrating.

Asked if he was nervous about taking on such a journey, Fraser said he was not as the cause far outweighed any doubts he had.

He added that he had been preparing extensively for the solitary journey by walking 80km a day, running and kick-boxing.

Fraser’s walk will begin at the Primedia offices in Sandton and will end at the company’s offices in Cape Town.
