Construction workers become a security threat

PARKMORE - Rose Johnson of the Friends of the Field & Study Park in Parkmore wants to warn community members about construction workers in the area.

She was a victim of a house break-in and suspects the construction workers who worked at one of her neighbours’ houses had a hand in the break-in.

Johnson explained, “For six months a house was being constructed next our house. Shortly after it was finished, we were invaded by five or more men who assaulted and dragged us to the bedroom and demanded a gun, a safe, money and jewellery. None of which we had.”

She believes her movements and life had been observed by the builders and the information passed on to the men who invaded her home.

With the number of construction workers increasing in the area, Johnson wants to ensure no one falls victim to a similar crime. “This may save someone from my experience,” she said.

Captain Kym Cloete, spokesperson for the Sandton police confirmed the case had been opened at the station last year.

“It was last year in August and the case took almost a year,” said Johnson. She added that despite the suspects being caught with her earrings in a packet, they were released.
