Bryanston High young leader

BRYANSTON - Bryanston High School Grade 11 pupil Tamara Mushani has been selected to participate in the 2014 South African Institute of International Affairs Young Leaders’ Conference.

The Young Leaders’ Conference will be held from 30 October to 5 December and will host 65 bright and talented high school pupils from all over South Africa. Youth development officer at the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) Desiree Kosciulek said the conference is held annually to give young pupils a chance to talk about specific global issues and develop specific goals.

The 2014 conference will touch on the sustainable development in three areas including economic, social and environmental, which will align with the United Nations Sustainable Development goals to be released next year. Kosciulek said the negotiations that will be held will give young people the opportunity to show they have a voice.

Spokesperson for Bryanston High School Liz Edwards said, “After three days of negotiations and workshops with various ambassadors, representatives of government, various diplomatic missions, businesses and universities, based on topics relating to the social, economic and environmental issues connected to the newly proposed United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, a declaration will be handed over at a special event at the new Department of Environmental Affairs buildings in Pretoria.”

She added, “Congratulations to Tamara. This is a high achievement indeed.”
