Prepare for construction on Ballyclare Drive

BRYANSTON - The Johannesburg Roads Agency has confirmed that road construction on Ballyclare Drive in Bryanston will commence soon.

Ward 103 councillor Vincent Earp said the regional operations manager Vusi Sikhakane said the roads agency will be on site from 20 October.

“The roads agency has received approval for their traffic plans on Ballyclare Drive,” said Earp.

This, after the roads agency addressed the public during an update meeting on the plans in place for the road repairs. The existing steel hand railing on Ballyclare Drive will be removed and concrete parapets on the bridge will be installed. Existing Armco barriers on the eastern approach of the bridge will be removed and replaced with concrete barriers. Traffic controls will be put in place due to the confined nature of the bridge.

Traffic signs will be positioned to warn and slow down traffic approaching the construction area and rumble strips will be used for traffic calming.

There will be a canopy over the cycling track below the eastern side of the bridge and 24-hour security to keep road users away from the potentially risky areas as construction takes place.

Repairs on Ballyclare Drive were initially supposed to commence mid-May this year when the roads agency first launched its repair project. The estimated construction period of the bridge is two months.
