Food in a story

BRYANSTON - Going into the second month of their very special Celebrity Chef Series, Col’Cacchio launched chef extraordinaire Jodi-Ann Pearton’s Basil Mcbeefy on 10 October at Nicolway Shopping Centre just in time for World Food Day.

Pearton is a highly acclaimed chef and founder of The Food Design Agency, a Sandown-based business which focuses on product, recipe and menu development, as well as food styling and marketing. The Basil Mcbeefy follows her #Foodwithastory concept which focuses on the childhood memories which sparked her passion for the culinary arts. This is the second time she has participated in the Celebrity Chef Series, the first in 2010 with her Chicken bunny chow calzone which remains a staple on the Col’Cacchio’s menu.

Pearton said with individual brands it’s important to find like-minded people, adding, “We truly believe that Col’Cacchio represents the quality of our brand and they’re a great one to partner up with.”

The Basil Mcbeefy was named after her father, Basil, and is made up of beef short rib slow cooked in red wine, vegetables, herbs, mozzarella, red chilli and crispy basil leaves. The pizza recalls the fond memories of the beef short rib her father cooked for family suppers.

Marketing manager at Col’Cacchio, Cara Birkett said, “The Basil Mcbeefy is truly South African and is comfort food at its best with a heart-warming story.”

R5 from every pizza sold will be donated to the Children’s Hospital Trust to fund a paediatric rehabilitation programme at St Joseph’s for chronically ill children.
