Equestrian jumps to music

SANDTON - Showjumper Cara Frew from Sandton and known in Kyalami equestrian circles has returned from the World Equestrian Games in France and is ready to take on her music career.

“The World Equestrian Games this year was once again a competition where I gained an enormous amount of experience –no medals won but a whole lot learnt,” she said.

Frew added that considering the circumstances surrounding the competition, she is grateful to have represented South Africa at the games once again.

“I learnt so much and gained invaluable experience,” she said.

“I am now even more focused and have set my sights to fight for even better results and to reach higher goals in the future.”

Frew said since the games in France, she has discovered that one’s mind is extremely powerful.

“It effects absolutely everything and one’s attitude makes the difference between succeeding and failing,” she explained.

However, for Frew, showjumping season is over for the remainder of this year.

“Our season starts again in February, starting off with the sunshine tour in Spain,” she added.

Even though showjumping will take a back seat for now, Frew is looking forward to pick up the pace of her show-stopping music career.

Frew (22) took part in Idols SA last year, and she has produced music with South African acts like Locnville and rapper, Da Les.

“I have just released my debut album titled Frozen,” she said.

“I am very amped about this as it’s a very personal piece of work, all written/co-written in Amsterdam.”

Frew has been conducting radio promotions in Johannesburg and Cape Town for Frozen and she has a few performances lined up as well. One performance is set to take place at the Hard Rock Café at Nelson Mandela Square in November.

“DJ Black Coffee has just released his new album and I am featured on his first single, so my next few months consist of joining him on stage around South Africa,” added Frew.

“I have performed with him in Thembisa for Heritage Day, I am at H20 in Johannesburg, and will be in Cape Town and Durban in the next months.”
