Do your bit for World Food Day

JOBURG - One in four people South Africans go to bed hungry every day and half the country’s population is at risk of hunger.

This was according to the Oxfam report, Hidden Hunger in SA: The Faces of Hunger and Malnutrition in a Food Secure Nation which was released this month.

Meanwhile, closer to home, a study by the Independent Development Trust conducted in 2012 revealed that 42 percent of poor people in Joburg did not have a meal at regular intervals.

These figures indicated that there were many people who were in need of the support provided by charitable organisations across the country.

However, it also indicated that there were several worthy causes for the public to get involved in this World Food Day.
