Debating team out-smarts the competition

SANDTON - Redhill High School won the Gauteng Schools Debating Championships, beating King David Victory Park in a closely fought final.

Nirvana Rogers, Redhill High School marketing officer, said the school had been working towards this victory for a number of years.

More than 40 schools took part in the Championships in which Redhill’s senior team has gone unbeaten throughout this year’s debating season. “The team of four also ranked exceptionally high individually,” added Rogers.

Grade 12 pupil, Sam Musker ranked first, Kate Dewey, a Grade 11 pupil ranked second, Emma Buckland, a Grade 11 pupil, ranked a joint third place and Isabella Leslie-Miller, a Grade 10 pupil, ranked eleventh.

The team also paid tribute to their coach Saul Musker for getting them ready for the championships.

Rogers said the entire team has been invited to the Gauteng Debating trials taking place later this month.
