Sports fest evens the playing fields

SUNNINGHILL - St Peter's College in Sunninghill hosted their 11th annual Sports and Cultural Festival.

The festival is the largest schools sports and cultural festival of its kind in South Africa. Over 3 500 high school pupils from more than 50 schools around the country participated in the festival.

Theresa Monoyoudis of St Peter’s College, said the festival was unique in that it brought pupils together from all walks of life to engage with each other on a level playing field, to play sport and engage in cultural interests.

The aim of the festival is centred around youth development, and promotes partnership in communities with a proudly South African tradition. The festival included activities like basketball, netball, soccer, debating, pavement art and choir.

Some of the highlights of the festival were Krugersdorp High winning the netball tournament for the ninth year in a row, and KwaBekhilanga High School winning the soccer girls tournament for a second year in a row.
