Mixing it up on the square

SANDTON - Nelson Mandela square was buzzing with avid theatre-goers as the Auto and General Theatre on the Square hosted the opening night of Terri Ella’s mesmerizing musical Mixtape on 2 October.

The musical tells the story of Marvin, Katie and Vix, played by Mortimer Williams, Kristy Suttner and Vanessa Frost respectively, who share a common love for music and expressing their ever-changing states of mind through mixtapes. From Michael Jackson to Adele, and from Celine Dion to Alanis Morisette, the show displays the trio’s lives through music and soundtracks.

In her directors note, Terri Ella said, “Mixtape speaks to the idea that songs are never more meaningful, important or written-so-specifically-for-you than when you’re a youngster and how they are so attached to powerful memories of people and places.”

The show kept all in attendance mesmerised with enjoyable laughs and nostalgic trips down memory lane with some of the best and worst music coating the heart warming story of three friends in the new South Africa.
