Pistorius was set to live in Sandton

SANDTON - Eyewitness News (EWN) exclusively revealed Oscar Pistorius visited a house he was looking to purchase in Atholl, Sandton the day before he shot and killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

This information was released in a report ahead of the launch of the book Behind the Door, written by EWN’s senior reporters Barry Bateman and Mandy Wiener.

They reported that Pistorius’ phone records revealed that the day before the shooting, on 13 February, 2013, he met with lawyers at an Illovo firm as well as a property agent regarding purchasing the Atholl house.

They also reported that he then visited his friend, Justin Divaris, at the Daytona Group car dealership in Sandton, and chatted to his siblings on the phone before speaking to his ex-girlfriend Jenna Edkins for nine minutes as he drove into his complex, Silver Woods Country Estate in Pretoria.

In September, Judge Thokozile Masipa found Pistorius guilty of culpable homicide in the Pretoria High Court and sentencing will start on 13 October.

Bateman and Wiener reported that the blade-runner saved Edkins number on his phone as ‘Babykins’.

EWN further reported that police did not “make this connection” and Edkins was not questioned by them.

EWN reported that Edkins said, “It was common knowledge they had remained friends over the years and she did not want to be involved in any media hype around ‘this terrible situation’,” and that neither the defence nor prosecution responded to questions about this circumstance.

EWN also reported that police suspected that Pistorius’ brother, Carl, had deleted data from the athlete’s cellphone after the shooting and tampered with evidence. The police only took the phone into evidence 12 days after the shooting.
