Fuel prices rise and drop in October

JOBURG - A mix of increases and decreases in fuel prices are set for October.

The Department of Energy announced that the price of 93 Octane petrol would increase by two cents per litre and 95 Octane petrol would drop by five cents per litre.

Liquefied petroleum gas was set to increase by 12 cents per kilogram, while both grades of diesel would decrease by 13 cents per litre, and illuminating paraffin would be cut by 18 cents per litre.

All adjustments would take effect from 1 October.

According to the department, the main factors contributing to the fuel price changes to were due to the price of crude oil decreasing, resulting in a drop in the prices of most petroleum products.

However, the rand /US dollar exchange also weakened on average compared to the previous period, which contributed to the slight increase in 93 Octane fuel.

Last month cash-strapped consumers received some much-needed relief at the pumps when all grades of petrol dropped by 67 cents per litre. The Minister of Energy Tina Joemat-Pettersson urged motorists to become fuel efficient and to practise fuel saving tips to reduce their spending on fuel.
