Residents warned against vehicle-related crime

SANDTON - Following the successful arrest of a suspect by the Sandton police, Captain Kym Cloete issued a warning to residents concerning vehicle-related crimes in the area.

Sectors 3 and 4 saw an occurrence of such crimes in the past week, with two taking place in Kelvin and Sandown.

According to Cloete, who is the spokesperson for the Sandton police, in both incidents equipment was taken from the cars.

“In the first incident, which took place in Sandown, the complainant parked his vehicle, ensuring it was locked,” she said.

When the complainant returned, he found his electronic equipment had been stolen, but there was no forced entry.

In another incident, a car in Kelvin had electronic equipment stolen from it after the owner left it parked and locked.

Cloete warned residents to remain vigilant. “Avoid parking your motor vehicle where there are no security officers guarding, and make sure that all the doors and windows are properly locked when you park your car,” she said.

Additionally, she cautioned residents to remain aware of people sitting in cars, pretending to read.

Finally, Cloete advised residents to have an alarm fitted in their vehicle and to have the car keys ready when approaching their cars, especially if they are difficult to find.
