ADT issues spring safety tips

JOBURG - With spring firmly setting in, the ADT security company has issued a warning to residents on keeping their home secure during the warmer season.

According to Clive Humphrey, managing director of ADT Central Region, security must be paramount due to an increase in outdoor activities.

“With the warmer weather on the way people are likely to leave their homes unattended more frequently to spend time outdoors. It is vital that their property and belongings are protected,” he said.

Humphrey advised that residents ensure that security measures, such as alarm systems and panic buttons, are tested regularly.

He stressed that if these measures are not functioning properly, alarm signals may not reach the security company who, in turn, will be unable to assist in an emergency.

“Testing your alarm can be done together with your security service provider [and] if anything out of the ordinary is noted, a technician can be dispatched to address the problem,” he said.

Humphrey included more safety tips for residents, including re-assessing security needs, equipping domestic staff with panic buttons, ensuring that your gate is secured, and providing the service provider with up-to-date contact details.

“Residents need to also remember [that] your security service provider can offer advice if there is any uncertainty on how to identify security needs,” he concluded.
