Retro music has the Barnyard Theatre hopping

SUNNINGHILL - Sparkly costumes and retro hits have audiences dancing in the aisles at the Barnyard Theatre's '80s Rewind show.

An energetic and versatile cast of singers and dancers turned the clock back by bringing the ’80s to audiences at the Barnyard Theatre, Rivonia, in an unashamedly corny performance, with more than a touch of silly humour.

Sporting seemingly hundreds of different costumes, from leg warmers and tutus to plastic raincoats, dazzlingly multicoloured tracksuits and ball gowns, sparkly divas, leather-clad rock stars and even drag queens brought all the best-loved tracks of the decade to the stage, accompanied with flair by a three-piece band.

The talented cast showed their versatility in an impressive range of musical impressions, from Soft Cell to Abba, Annie Lennox and a moment of patriotism with Mango Groove, all mixed with stirring guitar solos and the odd medley.

The non-stop, feel-good musical riot had audience members dancing on chairs, and lighters made an appearance for some slower numbers.

Extravagant, flamboyant and liberally scattered with latex suits, the ’80s Rewind took audiences back to the era of the Walkman, Pakman and the Rubix Cube for a high energy and fun-filled night out.
