Ice bucket challenge goes down at Saxon Hotel

HYDE PARK - Entrepreneur and philanthropist, Dr James Makamba undertook the Ice Bucket Challenge at the Saxon Hotel in Hyde Park on 2 September.

The Ice Bucket Challenge for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) awareness has gained momentum as more and more people are participating. The deed is aimed at raising money and awareness for the ALS Association.

“I’ve always supported fundraising causes as my foundation also runs on donations,” said Makamba. He is the founder of the Ibbamo Foundation, which he said was inspired by the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama and his wife Michelle.

“The organisation raises funds and establishes projects for improving educational opportunities for disadvantaged South African children.

Makamba had a bucket of water full of ice cubes dumped on his head to raise awareness about the cause. Before that he nominated founder of 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day, Carol Steyn, founder of African Rainbow Minerals, Patrice Motsepe and his wife Precious as well as Metro FM DJ Tbo Touch among others to take on the challenge too.
