Disaster waiting to happen on Ballyclare Drive

BRYANSTON - Ward 103 councillor Vincent Earp told the city council during a meeting that the Johannesburg Roads Agency had done nothing on Ballyclare Drive in Bryanston.

This after the roads agency held a press conference in March this year, to inform the media that Coleraine and Ballyclare drives would be prioritised following the damage that the roads sustained during a long period of heavy rainfall in the area.

Skhumbuzo Macozoma, the roads agency’s managing director had said Ballyclare Drive in Bryanston would be allocated an estimated R751 000 and would be completed in two to three months.

Earp said, “Nothing, I repeat absolutely nothing has been done on this site. There is no contractor working on this site. This project was supposed to take two months and it is now the end of August.”

He said the roads agency had informed him that they would lay new storm water pipes to solve the water problem plaguing the road. He added that once completed, the roads agency said they would then repair Ballyclare Drive properly.

“In the meantime, water and potholes are a permanent feature on this extremely busy stretch of Ballyclaire Drive” said Earp. “It is a nightmare for residents and parents trying to access Bryneven Primary School and even the Gautrain buses.”

He added that the roads agency also informed him that they would have to wait for the new 2014/2015 financial year to start the project.

Earp was concerned that once the rains started and the road broke up, the roads agency may have to call for the closure of Ballyclaire Drive like they have done for Coleraine Drive.
