President of business women’s association resigns

SANDTON - The Business Women’s Association of South Africa announced the resignation of its president, Liepollo Lebohang Pheko on 1 September.

This after the association announced and celebrated the winners of the 2014 Business Woman of the Year awards at the Sandton Convention Centre in August.

Thembi Mtiya, on behalf of the association, said the resignation was effective immediately and had already been announced internally.

“Pheko has been a part of the leadership for nearly five years and has been president for 16 months,” explained Mtiya.

“Pheko is going to continue with her various professional and business interests.”

The association is also celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. At this year’s award ceremony, Roswitha Becker took the award in the corporate category, while Nombulelo Hackula walked away with the award in the government category.

“Over the past months, we have achieved various milestones ensuring that the organisation continues to grow its membership and meet its objectives,” said Pheko.

Mtiya said the association will announce its executive structure following Pheko’s resignation in due course.
