More police presence on Grayston Drive

SANDTON - Ward 91 councillor Andrew Stewart wants a stronger police presence on Grayston Drive in Sandton.

This after a number of crime incidents had been reported recently on Grayston Drive.

Stewart said the Metro police were meant to launch a visibility initiative on Grayston Drive months ago, and it was meant to involve the Metro police, the police and private security.

“The initiative was stopped at the eleventh hour and is now in limbo,” said Stewart. “In light of the recent violent crimes on Grayston Drive, this initiative should be introduced,” he added.

Wayane Minnaar, spokesperson for the Metro police said, “The partnership with the security company did not materialise because policy processes for the private partnership may have been compromised.”

However, Minnaar added that the Metro police did monitor Grayston Drive. “The Grayston Drive bridge is being patrolled on a daily basis by the JMPD,” he said. “Officers cannot be in one place day and night.”

Minnaar added that motorists needed to stop giving window-washers on Grayston Drive money. He said if motorists stopped giving the window-washers money, they would stop hanging around on Grayston Drive.
