Wine connoisseurs take over Sandton

SANDTON - The Cape Wine Makers Guild held a special wine tasting and showcase at the Nedbank head office.

This ahead of the guild’s auction of some of South Africa’s premier wines on 4 October.

Hundreds of enthusiastic wine-lovers tasted some of the finest wines and rubbed shoulders with some of the winemakers.

All in attendance were given two glasses and were invited to taste more than 45 different rare wines in celebration of South Africa’s rich wine culture. Winemaker Teddy Hall from Stellenbosch said, “More important than just getting people to taste wine, this is a tasting of only the guild members who are selected by their peers. So most of the wines tasted tonight are only available at the Cape Wine Makers Guild’s auction.”

He added, “Even as a winemaker I have to say that it’s absolutely amazing to taste my colleagues wines.”

Excited taster and Nedbank employee, Lorian Prigge said, “This event hosts the cream of the crop, you can’t really find a bad wine here and a lot of them can’t even be bought.”
