Tourism association proud of growth of Sandton

SANDTON - The Sandton Tourism Association praised the growth trajectory of Sandton, citing the success and growth of key spots such as the Sandton Convention Centre and Sandton City.

Furthermore, the association cited the area as a prime and leisure tourism destination, and one continuing to invite investment from across the country and in Africa.

Alida Canevari, chairperson of the association, described Sandton as the “most significant business and financial district in the country”.

“Sandton continues to flourish and offer first-class service to those who stay, play or shop in the area,” Canevari said. “It continues to be a destination of choice for people throughout the country as well as the African diaspora and further afield.”

Canevari added that the city was a gateway to the African continent’s commercial and business hub, citing the new developments being added to the city this year.

Additionally, Canaveri stressed that the association would continue the marketing of the area, online and through social networks.

“We [will] also work with related tourist organisations and companies to grow our visibility as one of our goals is to expand our footprint to become an ever stronger association that adds real value to members and the area we operate in,” she said.

Matifadza Nyazema, executive director of the Sandton Convention Centre added to the sentiment saying that Sandton had “come of age” as a global destination, hosting a variety of renowned events within the area.

The Sandton Tourism Association was formed in 2000 in order to promote Sandton as a business and leisure tourism destination. Sandton is home to about 10 000 businesses, including investment banks, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and one of the biggest convention centres on the African continent, the Sandton Convention Centre.
