Businesswomen of the year winners announced

SANDTON - The Business Women’s Association of South Africa announced the winners of the 2014 Business Woman of the Year awards at the Sandton Convention Centre.

Roswitha Becker took the award in the corporate category, while Nombulelo Hackula walked away with the award in the government category. “As we celebrate 35 years of courage, achievement and leadership, it brings us great joy to continue to see women breaking barriers, exhibiting their astute leadership and business capabilities,” said Liepollo Lebohang Pheko, the association’s president.

She said the awards the women had received were a testament to their courage towards making a change in the socio-economic landscape of society.

Becker has been integral in building an organisation that exemplifies the possibilities of globalisation. She is driven by a deep sense of making a difference and believes in bringing change to the world.

“It is such an honour to receive this award, I have always looked up to previous winners and today I am ecstatic to be counted among them,” said Becker.

Hackula is regarded as one of the most influential woman leaders in the Eastern Cape. She has held various leadership positions including purchasing manager at Daimler Chrysler South Africa, deputy director general at the office of the premier in the Eastern Cape, and the head of department of housing in the Eastern Cape.

“I am highly motivated by this accolade and equally grateful for the recognition of my efforts in the public sector,” said Hackula. ”This being the new category in the awards, I believe many women will be inspired to do well and represent the public sector excellently.”
