Man gets job through social media

BENMORE GARDENS - After taking his plight to a street corner in Benmore Gardens, then-unemployed Ndumiso Sikhakhane was offered employment by a construction company based in KwaZulu-Natal.

The man’s plight was first reported in Man uses social media to hunt for a job, Sikhakhane. Now he has received the life-changing call from the company.

Sikhakhane explained how he managed to gain employment.

“Soon after the picture emerged on Facebook, I received a call from a lady who owns a construction company and she asked me to apply online for a post within the company,” he explained.

Sikhakhane said he was flown to Durban where he was interviewed and appointed as an assistant to the contracts manager.

He expressed joy and gratitude at the job opportunity describing it as a “breath of fresh air”. Sikhakhane (26) became popular after a photo emerged of him standing on a street corner holding a poster which listed his qualifications and plea for a job. The picture, taken by Kobus Faber went on to generate more than 2 500 shares on social media and much interest in Sikhakhane by the media.
