Anger over Tempest Road

MORNINGSIDE - A Morningside resident Neil Staunton has expressed outrage regarding the massive hole left after water pipe maintenance on the pavement off Tempest Road.

The repairs were done due to a water pipe burst. Staunton said, “Johannesburg water came to fix the pipe and dug up a big hole in the middle of the sidewalk. The whole was just left there after the pipe was fixed and its going onto its fourth week now. I believe that if they are going to dig up the ground they have to fill up the hole immediately.”

Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Road Agency, Bertha Peters-Scheepers said when any construction was performed on the roads, a way leave with the location and nature of the construction must be given to the agency. When the construction was complete a way leave must be issued notifying the agency.

Ward councillor of Ward 103 Vincent Earp said, “Its absolutely ridiculous. There are about 30 instances of this around the Sandton area so its a clear example of the poor communication between these government agencies.”

Earp confirmed that a way leave was issued to fill up the hole.

As of yet Johannesburg Water has not commented on the situation.
