ADT officer nabs suspect in Rivonia

RIVONIA - A security company lauded the work of one of their own after a suspect was apprehended at a complex in Rivonia.

The suspect was apprehended after a resident in the complex spotted him in his garden and alerted the armed response team.

According to Nicola Honey of Cathy Findley Public Relations, the incident took place on 16 August just before 5am.

“An ADT reaction officer was dispatched to the scene and upon his arrival, did a thorough check of the premises and saw the suspect climbing over the electric fence,” she said.

The officer then chased the suspect and managed to corner him in the street before apprehending him.

Honey added that the suspect had cut the electric fence wiring in order to gain access to the complex. The suspect was handed over to the Sandton police and Captain Kym Cloete, spokesperson for Sandton police confirmed that a case of trespassing had been opened.

She added that the suspect appeared at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court and was scheduled to make another appearance on 17 September.

Clive Humphrey, managing director of ADT Central Region commended the work of the officer and cautioned residents on the importance of checking the condition of their electric fence at least once a month.

“Perimeter security is vital and should be assessed for any weak areas that could be reinforced,” he advised.
