Husband in hospital after stabbing wife 50 times

BRYANSTON - The murder suspect who allegedly stabbed his wife 50 times outside an office park in Bryanston has been admitted to hospital.

Police spokesperson Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng said tests found illegal substances in the suspect’s blood stream and he is recovering in hospital. Mofokeng said the suspect was arrested on the street in Pietermaritzberg after the police were alerted to his whereabouts by residents.

Bryanston stabbing suspect attempts suicide

20 August 9.20am:

Senior public prosecutor Yusuf Baba at Randburg Magistrate’s Court read from the docket that the suspect (42) attempted to commit suicide and is currently in hospital receiving treatment.

The suspect was due to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on 20 August. The court will issue a warrant for the suspect to remain in custody until he is fit to stand trial. The new court date at the moment stands at 28 August.

The suspect was caught by police on 19 August in Pietermaritzburg in Kwa-Zulu Natal, following the murder of a woman who police believe is his wife.

19 August, 2.04pm:

The murder suspect involved in the stabbing of a woman in Bryanston was arrested on 19 August.

Police spokesperson Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng said the 42-year-old suspect was arrested in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu Natal. He added, “The suspect was on the run following the murder of a woman on Saturday [16 August] afternoon on the corner of Peter Place and Karen Street in Bryanston.”

Mofokeng identified the woman as 41-year-old Shareen Pillay and confirmed that she was murdered by her husband.

Pillay was found with 50 stab wounds on 16 August by a passerby who alerted the paramedics. ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaark said Pillay was barely responsive when paramedics arrived at the scene. He said she later died at Mediclinic Sandton after substantial blood loss.

The suspect will appear at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on 20 August on charges of murder.
