Bogus cops apply for bail

SANDTON - The two fake police officers who were arrested in Sandton in connection with a hijacking are set to apply for bail on 14 August.

This after Tshepo Ledwaba and Lucas Mabeko’s bail application was postponed on 11 August.

Lieutenant General Solomon Makgale, the head corporate communication officer for the South African Police Service (SAPS), said the next bail application hearing will take place at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

On Twitter @SAPoliceService reported that the two were earlier denied bail in June this year, after their arrest.

Makgale said Ledwaba and Mabeko were arrested and charged with attempted hijacking on 2 June, this year. He added that the two were also charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and impersonating police officers.

“At the time of the alleged offense, Ledwaba was wearing a SAPS reflector jacket and a SAPS baseball cap,” explained Makgale. “Mabeko was wearing a Metro police reflector jacket and a Metro police baseball cap and their BMW had flashing blue police lights.”
