Red light cellphone robbery in Parkmore

PARKMORE - A man had his cellphone snatched from his hand while waiting in traffic in Parkmore.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for the Bramley police said the man’s cellphone was valued at R6 500.

He said the man was driving a white Toyota Prado when he stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of Sandton and William Nicol drives.

“He was talking to his wife on his cellphone and his window was wide open,” explained Maphakela.

He added, “An unknown man appeared next to him as if he was about to ask for something.” Maphakela said the suspect grabbed the man’s Nokia cellphone and ran away.

Maphakela said, “The man was wearing a dark-blue T-shirt and black pants, he was very tall, short hair and had no facial hair.”

No arrests have been made.

  1. A similar thing happened to me on Hans Schoeman just before Rhema Church on the bridge over the N1.
    It was 5pm bumper to bumper traffic, my window wasn’t down much, I had my ear phones in and the next thing these arms were in my car and grabbing at my earphone cable and grabbing between my legs looking for the phone. After a bit of a fight from me, he did end up running away with my phone….
