Honouring business women

SANDTON - The Businesswomen’s Association of South Africa (Bwasa) announced the eight Businesswoman of the Year Award finalists on 31 July in Sandton.

The event was the culmination of months of an intense selection process that saw many businesswomen submitting their credentials for consideration for the coveted award.

Liepollo Lebohang Pheko, the president of Bwasa welcomed guests in the executive dining room at the Nedbank head office in Sandton. She said, “This year’s entries are testimony to the growing interest of women in business.”

Pheko added that the quality of the business credentials submitted for consideration for this year’s awards confirmed that women are major contributors to shaping the economy, demonstrating excellent business and leadership acumen.

The awards focus on the corporate and the government sectors of business.

“Each woman has shown such amazing achievement in their careers and arriving at just one winner for each category is always such a difficult task,” said Pheko.

One of the finalists, Carol Hall, said she was most excited by being able to make a difference in the lives of other people. She is the Vodacom managing executive for the Eastern region.

All the finalists were interviewed about their portfolios by SABC 3’s Interface host, Tembisa Marele during the event.

“Business is wired on numbers and we need to work with what resonates with business,” said Dr Amber Cristal Anderson, the human resource executive at Coca-Cola Fortune.

The winning woman will be announced at the end of August after the judges have made their decision.
