Roads agency responds to Colerain Drive queries

RIVERCLUB - Irate Riverclub residents have received a response from the Johannesburg Roads Agency.

This after reports from Ward 103 councillor Vincent Earp, that roads agency contractors fixing Colerain Drive bridge were responsible for damaging a water pipe which led to a series of water cuts in the area.

Riverclub resident, Henry du Preez wanted a progress update on the bridge. He complained that traffic was still a problem in the area due to the road closure.

“We will be meeting with residents in the next week or two to provide an overview on progress made,” said Bertha Peters-Scheepers, spokesperson for the agency.

She said a public consultation meeting had been held with residents of Morningside about opening the Springhill Road security gates as an alternative route to Outspan Road because construction was hampering traffic. The outcome of the public meeting was that Springhill Road would not be opened.

Peters-Scheepers said the reasons included that taxis and trucks using Springhill Road as a thoroughfare would cause massive problems.

“In terms of security, additional traffic and pedestrian flow [it] will be difficult to manage and contain. Also, traffic congestion will affect residents negatively,” added Peters-Scheepers.

The anticipated construction period has moved to mid-December this year. Residents have been urged to be patient by the roads agency.
