UPDATE: Shots fired at rental car costs couple R1 730

SANDTON - Motorist Maxwell Ihdigbo and his partner survived gunshots while travelling on Grayston Drive in Sandton.

UPDATE: 31 July, 10am:

However, the couple had to pay R1 730 for the bullet holes that damaged their rental car.

Ihdigbo said he and his partner were doing their groceries in Sandton before the attack. “I think the suspects in the bakkie might have been following us from the grocery store,” he explained.

“When we turned right, the [other] car would also turn right, so I decided to slow down.”

Ihdigbo said he slowed down towards the Grayston Drive off-ramp. The car – an Alfa Romeo – cut in front of him. He said after a suspect from the Alfa Romeo pointed the gun at him and his partner, he then swerved and accelerated.

“Two bullets and two empty cartridges were found at the scene,” explained Ihdigbo.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for the Bramley police said no arrests have been made.

A man and his wife survived gunshots while travelling on Grayston Drive in Sandton.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for the Bramley police said the couple opened an attempted murder case with the police.

He said the couple were followed by a white bakkie while they drove in a rented Kia.

He explained, “When they were about to join Grayston Drive, a silver Alfa Romeo without a registration number, appeared from nowhere and cut in front of them.”

Maphakela said a suspect in a black beanie emerged from the Alfa Romeo, pointed a gun at the couple and ordered them to stop.

“The couple defied the suspect’s demands and drove off,” said Maphakela. “The couple heard gunshots being fired at them but they continued to drive.”

Maphakela said the suspects driving in the white bakkie then followed the couple and tried to stop their car, but eventually drove away.

He added that the couple’s rental car was damaged by bullets and empty cartridges were found at the scene of the incident, however no one was injured.

No arrests have been made.

  1. If you are licensed, carry. This is getting to a point that Police actually cannot help us anymore. Protect yourself.

  2. Why use a picture unrelated to this crime? That’s not a Kia, nor is it RHD and it certainly isn’t a rental. That’s also shotgun damage.

  3. If that picture is unrelated to the story it is very misleading. If you don’t have a pic don’t use a pic

  4. Is it my imagination or are criminals getting more violent? I wonder if people would be quite so willing to kill others if the death penalty was reinstated. It seems jail time is not enough of a deterrent.

  5. To begin with we should have some confirmation on the types of motor vehicles and colors of motor vehicles involved. The victim and the cops seem to have their wires crossed.

  6. had the couple shot back and killed one of the gunmen. the gunmen wudv been off the hook and the person that killed the gunman in the hotseat. Jacob Zuma should stop his BS and focus on all the crime going on
