Irate residents want answers on Coleraine Drive

RIVERCLUB - Recent water cuts in the Riverclub area have raised questions about the repairs taking place on the Coleraine Drive bridge.

This after reports from Ward 103 councillor, Vincent Earp, that the Johannesburg Roads Agency contractors were responsible for damaging a water pipe in the area.

“In five months they have done absolutely nothing,” said Riverclub resident, Henry du Preez. “When will the bridge be done? The longer it takes the more money needed and the more we taxpayers have to pay.”

He added that traffic was still a major problem in the area.

“There is nothing there, it is just a big hole,” said Du Preez.

Teri Solomon, another Riverclub resident added, “Absolutely no progress has been made [in repairing] the road. To the contrary, the hole in the ground has trebled in size. The roads agency must take responsibility for this, it is a travesty.”

In June this year, Bertha Peters-Scheepers, spokesperson for the agency, said there were a number of issues that slowed down progress on the repairs. Hence, the anticipated construction period moved from July to mid-December this year, and the budget for repairs had increased from R4.9 million to 12.9 million.

“With construction anything can happen,” said Peters-Scheepers. “We need residents and motorists to be patient with us.”

This is a developing story and more information is expected from the agency with regards to how the repairs on Coleraine Drive are developing.

Do you trust that the roads agency will meet their mid-December deadline with repairing the collapsed bridge on Coleraine Drive in Riverclub?
