Celebrating art expression in Sandton

SANDTON - First National Bank (FNB) and ArtLogic held a media launch of the seventh FNB Joburg Art Fair which will take place in Sandton.

The fair is set to kick off at the Sandton Convention Centre from 22 to 24 August.

FNB and ArtLogic have joined forces to support the development of arts and culture in Africa. ArtLogic is an events company that specialises in high-end boutique fairs, and FNB have been the sponsors for the past seven years.

The media launch was held at the Saxon Hotel in Sandhurst where Cobi Labuscagne, co-director of ArtLogic announced the FNB Art Prize winner for 2014.

Harare-based artist Portia Zvavahera who was announced as the winner, was unable to attend the launch. However, Lerato Bereng collected Zvavahera’s R100 000 cheque on her behalf.

Director of the FNB Joburg Art Fair, Ross Douglas said the fair had become one of the major annual art events on the African continent.

“We hope that the FNB Joburg Art prize will help reinforce our endorsement of the artist’s valued contribution to our diverse cultural fabric,” added FNB chief marketing officer, Bernice Samuels.

This year’s fair is expected to have 37 exhibitors from eight different countries and a line-up of special projects.
