This according to Growthpoint Properties office division director, Rudolf Pienaar who is certain that the size and location of the building alone, is going to make a global statement.
The property owned by Growthpoint and Zenprop is already under construction. The earthworks on the building commenced in March this year.
Discovery is a South African-founded financial services organisation that operates in the healthcare, life assurance, short-term insurance, wellness markets, and savings and investment products.
The new 87 000m2 Sandton office, which will be located at the corner of Rivonia Road and Katherine Street is designed to be resource-efficient, cost-effective and environmentally sustainable.
Discovery is expected to take occupation of its new global head office on 1 January 2018.
“This is a phenomenal building development and we’ve picked the best team to do it,” added Pienaar.
James Tannenberger, the chief executive officer of Zenprop Property Holdings said the property would be an example of how Zenprop Property Holdings was constantly working towards pushing boundaries.
John Robertson, Discovery executive director said, “We wanted a building that was true to our values.” He said he was looking forward to the property development venture.
The building will comprise of two wings with eight floors of offices plus a ground floor and a feature roof level. It will also offer nine basements with more than 5 100 parking bays.
The construction of the basement levels will commence in October this year and the construction of the office levels will begin in January 2016.
