Buccleuch residents commemorate Madiba

BUCCLEUCH - The Buccleuch Residents’ Action Community commemorated the spirit of Nelson Mandela in Mandela Month.

The organisation that is responsible for the maintenance and safety of Buccleuch and its residents, convened at Bridge Road Park for a day of community action.

Members and their families, and other community participants cleaned up the river banks, streets and parks in the suburb before visiting the Village Safe Haven home for children where items of need were donated.

Vice-chairman of the organisation, Maria Gerondoudis said she was grateful to all who assisted with the Mandela Month project.

“I would like to add that due to the amazing turnout, we finished the river and street clean-up in a record of two and half hours,” said Gerondoudis.

On behalf of the organisation and the Buccleuch community, she thanked Metro police for sending two cars to escort the street teams around the suburb.

She also thanked Pikitup for organising clean-up bags, Redwood Garden Services for transportation, Monolith Estates for the jumping castle, hotdogs and sweet-packs, and volunteers who worked and donated generously to the Village Safe Haven.
