Internet users warned of slower connections

JOBURG - Internet users across the country can expect slower connectivity on 11 July due to a maintenance operation to be conducted by Seacom.

The maintenance is expected to take place from at 10pm on 11 July until 12 July at 7am.

According to Mybroadband, Seacom will be upgrading its major terrestrial backhaul connectivity within the country and as a result, internet speeds will be slower for most broadband users.

All internet connections using 3G, ADSL lines and Wifi will be affected, the company said.

Seacom also confirmed that planned maintenance on its system would affect some customers and mentioned that it is a necessary move that will enhance the stability and resilience of the network.

It would also ensure that the operator is able to meet customers’ needs, the company said.

Seacom added that some customers would, however, experience increased latency during the affected period, but that the majority would have to have contingency plans to deal with service interruptions.
