Ice and cold in the city of gold

JOBURG - With frozen swimming pools and icy hose pipes, there’s no doubt that winter has the City of Gold firmly in its clutches.

Temperatures in Joburg dropped to between one and minus five degrees on Thursday night, according to Accuweather.com.

A few residents took to Twitter to share their experiences of the cold; among them were @ShonyMabusela, who tweeted, “Had to wait a good 30 min for all this ice to melt off the car! Joburg and its weather though.”

@URBANWALKABOUT tweeted, “It’s as cold as ice in the city of gold. Frozen water pipes, iced roads an unusual winter experience amongst glorious sunshine. It’s Joburg.”

This reporter woke up to a swimming pool that had frozen over and a table cloth that had been decorated with delicate ice crystals.
