Launch of SA’s first book on amended BEE codes of good practice

ILLOVO - South Africa’s first and only book on the amended Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) codes of good practice has been launched.

The book aims to help users understand the new regulations as well as calculate their B-BBEE scores.

South African organisations will be audited for compliance using the new codes from April 2015. The Practical Guide to the Amended B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice was published by LexisNexis South Africa.

The book is said to be effective for anyone needing to understand and apply the new transformation regulations, as well as BEE registered auditors.

The authors, Brigitte Brun and Maxi-Lee Machado have years of experience as B-BBEE consultants and verification process advisories.

They said the key benefits of the book and linked calculator application are that they enable organisations to calculate their B-BBEE score easily, before they reach the verification stage.

The book has been endorsed as an essential tool for all South Africans involved in business by Sandile Zungu, executive chairperson of Zungu Investments Company, and member of the Presidential BEE Advisory Council.

He has described the book as “both a strategic tool for future interventions and a control tool in that organisations approach a verification agency with some prior understanding of their potential score”.

Portia Tau-Sekati, chief executive officer of Property Sector Charter Council wrote a foreword for the book. In it she said, the book will assist the implementers of B-BBEE on the ground to understand the fundamental measurement principles not only in form, but more significantly in substance.

LexisNexis South Africa chief executive officer, Billy Last said, “B-BBEE legislation is the yardstick we have to measure transformation in this country. LexisNexis is proud to make available this practical tool kit which makes it easier for organisations and auditors to measure compliance.”

He added that in making the book available, LexisNexis South Africa is helping organisations play their part in the country’s transformation journey.
