Police search for arson attack suspects

MARLBORO - After the alleged petrol bombing of his family home, Marlboro resident Jeffery Mahlangu is slowly beginning to rebuild his life.

This while Bramely police are on the lookout for the culprits.

On the morning of 28 May, Mahlangu and his family awoke with their home engulfed in flames after hearing three loud bangs allegedly caused by petrol bombs thrown at their house. Almost his entire house collapsed, and two of his four children suffered burns on their chests, hands and heads.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Bramley police, said that they have confirmed that the fire was a case of arson but have no suspects.

Mahlangu said, “At the moment we are still waiting for the insurance to get the forensic evidence from the police so they can rebuild our home.”

He added that he still does not know who could have committed the act and why they would do it.

His two injured children were recently discharged from hospital.

Mahlangu said, “Their hands are still bandaged and they have to carry on with treatment but they are recovering.”

The Mahlangu family is slowly rebuilding their lives while living in a rented cottage in Kelvin, but they still struggle to deal with the confusion that the incident has brought.

Mahlangu said, “My wife and I are still wondering who would have done this to us. We still don’t know and she is trying to handle the situation.

“We are just trying to get through this. We hope the insurance can help us soon so we can rebuild our home and move on with our lives.

“At the moment we are helping our children deal with the incident. But we have a good family to help us with the pain and confusion.”
