Councillors fed up with messy Bryanston intersection

BRYANSTON - Ward 102 and 104 councillors David Potter and Mike Wood are fed up with the messy William Nicol Drive and Main Road intersection in Bryanston.

“The intersection is a mess,” said Potter. He added that the area would look more presentable if the gutters were cleaned and if the weeds would be removed from between the rocks. “Some of this was done but on such a minor scale, it hardly made an impact,” said Potter.

He said he understood that it was not going to be an overnight job to get the area cleaned up. “The intersection cannot be upgraded right now, it needs a budget allocation and a plan,” he added.

Potter said he met with the general manager of City Parks at the intersection. “He brought with him his team that manages the intersection. He has made the call that Region B is going to be responsible for the intersection’s maintenance.”

Wood explained that the reason both he and Potter were seeing to the issue was because the intersection overlapped in both their wards.

Dead trees, shrubs and branches were evident on the pavement of the intersection. There was litter lying around and some of the sand as well as the rocks have been washed onto the road and into the gutters.

“This is really disgusting,” said Bryanston resident Merle Comninos. “This intersection is one of the places that introduce people to Sandton and it is not a very good first impression for visitors and tourists.”

Potter added, “We will keep hammering away at the issue, it isn’t a once-off unfortunately.”
